We had a community garden meeting on Monday, and we talked about making some signs to tell people what's available to harvest, where to weed or plant, and what's growing where - so that's what we're going to make a start on this Saturday, along with finally sorting out the guttering to catch rain off the shed, and probably planting a few more veg too - hope you can make it along!

We had another lovely day in the garden yesterday, and we managed to weed almost the entire plot - it's amazing how much we can get done in an afternoon! The garden is looking great at the moment - the pear tree is just about to come into bloom, there are lots of daffodils and other flowers, the broad beans and onions are doing well, and we've even got purple and white sprouting broccoli to harvest.

We cleared the area around the elder (near the compost heap, you can see it in this photo) and planted lots of wild flower seeds. Last year the wild flower area looked wonderful so we're hoping it will do well this year too.

We also made a start on the new vegetable plot (next to the nature area at the back) - the idea is for this plot to become a winter vegetable plot, and yesterday we planted rows of parsnips and chard. We planted literally hundreds of parsnips seeds (harvested from a local allotment so there was no lack of them!) so we hope that at least some of them will come up. Next time we'll plant potatoes, beetroot and carrots, and there might even be space for a row of leeks in this area.

Our next garden day should be this coming Saturday, 3 to 5pm. All welcome!
